“Getting in touch with my own orgasm” is exactly what inspiring artist Favianna Rodriguez is doing. She is a passionate student of Deliberate Orgasm. From her #pussypower print collection she has created 10 edition varie prints titled Deliberate Orgasm. “Dedicated to the community that teaches me about my orgasm.”
Favianna describes her journey
Over the past two years, I have embarked on a journey to connect more deeply and intentionally to my own pleasure, and to unlearn so many myths around love, sex, and relationships. In 2012, I came out publicly about my abortion, and after a year of traveling around the country sharing my story, I realized that the larger frame that I was not talking about was the way that our society scrutinizes, shames, and represses all expressions of sexuality.
I remembered all the fear-based messages that I received around sexual pleasure growing up – messages such as “Close your Legs! Don’t Give it Up. Don’t Get Pregnant.” For about 25 years of my life, I did not learn how to ask for what I wanted sexually. I did not have the tools to understand the complexity and the possibilities of my body. And rarely, very rarely, did I ever prioritize my own pleasure. I had always considered myself a liberated women, yet in my 30’s I realized the many parts of my own sensuality that I did not have access to. Only because I was either too fearful to talk about it, or too shameful to explore it.
New inspiration for Favianna Rodriguez art prints
In the last two years, I have had major shifts in my sexuality. I want to celebrate pussies, especially my pussy, as a source of empowerment, a reclamation of agency and of pleasure. I believe this is the best thing I can do for all people, is to encourage a deep love for all pussies. Our culture promotes messages of shame and duty, and those messages only get in the way of our pleasure.
I created these pussies to show the power, beauty, and joy of orgasm. By getting in touch with my own orgasm, I am able to tap into my joy, to love myself and my body, and to lead with pleasure – not fear, not guilt, not shame. The title is “Deliberate Orgasm” because I attended a workshop by a community named The Welcomed Consensus, who taught me about how to take responsibility for my orgasm and how to prioritize my orgasm.
I don’t need relationships, nor romance, nor external material goods to experience full orgasm. It is within me and I will leverage my orgasm to make the world a better place. Because pleasure is a human right.
